SNT HMI Manufacturing

Frequently Asked Questions

Explore customization options, engineering requirements, ordering conditions, lead times and quality processes for SNT custom membrane switches and integrated HMI solutions.

  1. What customization options are available for custom membrane switches?

We provide end-to-end customization services covering graphic overlays, circuits, backlighting and complete system integration.

    • Graphic overlays and front panels: Materials include PET, PC, acrylic, glass and silicone. Surface finishes include gloss, matte and textured. Options include display window cutouts, custom key embossing profiles and functional surface treatments such as anti-UV, antimicrobial, anti-glare and scratch-resistant hard coating. Tactile feedback can use stainless steel metal domes, polyester domes or non-tactile flat designs.
    • Circuit substrates: Flexible Printed Circuits (FPC), rigid PCBs or printed PET silver flex circuits.
    • Backlighting solutions: Discrete LED point backlighting, Light Guide Film (LGF) uniform backlighting, fiber optic backlighting or dynamic RGB auto-color-changing backlighting.
    • System integration: Integration with LCD displays, silicone rubber keypads, plastic enclosures or aluminum structural components.
  2. What types of custom HMI products does SNT manufacture?

As a Sino-German joint venture, SNT manufactures custom membrane switches, including backlit and capacitive types, silicone rubber keypads, metal keyboards, graphic overlays, touch screens and display modules, FPC/PCBA assemblies, aluminum control panels, plastic housings and complete HMI assemblies.

  3. Can SNT manufacture a custom membrane switch or keypad from my drawing or concept?

Yes. SNT provides engineering and DFM support for material selection, tactile feedback, backlighting, sealing, circuit layout, connectors and assembly design. We can work from a concept sketch, 2D or 3D drawing, artwork file or existing sample and develop it into a manufacturable solution.

  4. What information should I provide for a custom membrane switch quotation?

Please provide 2D or 3D drawings or artwork such as AI, PDF, DWG or STEP files, overall dimensions, material and surface-finish requirements, Pantone or RAL colours, circuit diagram or pinout, connector type, operating environment, order quantity and assembly requirements. If some specifications are not yet fixed, our engineers can recommend suitable options.

  5. What is the MOQ for custom membrane switches and silicone keypads?

Our ordering requirements are structured as follows:

    • Standard membrane switches: We do not enforce a strict Minimum Order Quantity (MOQ). However, we require a Minimum Order Value (MOV) of 300 USD per order.
    • Integrated assemblies: For assemblies involving LCDs, aluminum components, plastic enclosures or PCBs, MOQ requirements are evaluated on a project-by-project basis due to specialized tooling, raw material procurement and manufacturing processes.
  6. How long does it take to prototype and manufacture a custom HMI?

The specific lead time depends on product structural complexity, tooling development and material preparation.

    • Standard membrane switches: Sampling lead time is 3 weeks after drawing approval. Mass production lead time is 4–6 weeks after sample approval.
    • Integrated HMI products: For products including silicone, LCD, PCB, plastic enclosures or aluminum parts, sampling lead time is 30 days after drawing approval. Mass production lead time is 30 days after sample approval.
    • Acrylic overlays and panels: Sampling lead time is 2 weeks after drawing approval. Mass production lead time is 2–3 weeks after sample approval.
Final lead times will be confirmed by our project management team after the engineering review and official order confirmation.
  7. Can I approve a sample before mass production?

Yes. Once the drawings and technical specifications are finalized, we start with tooling setup and placing a sample order. The samples allow you to thoroughly evaluate and verify appearance, dimensions, tactile feedback, backlighting, circuit functionality, sealing performance and assembly fit. Mass production will only commence after official sample approval.

  8. What quality certifications and inspection processes does SNT provide?

SNT operates under ISO 9001 quality management and ISO 14001 environmental management systems, and its products can be manufactured to meet RoHS requirements. Every product undergoes 100% electrical and cosmetic inspection before shipment, with additional functional testing available according to project requirements.

  9. Which industries are SNT custom HMI products suitable for?

SNT HMI solutions are suitable for industrial automation, medical devices, telecommunications, automotive electronics, instrumentation, fitness equipment, security systems, defence equipment and other demanding OEM applications. Materials, sealing, backlighting, interfaces and assembly can be customized for each operating environment.

  10. How can I request a quotation or engineering review from SNT?

You can submit your project through the inquiry form on the SNT website or email sales@snt-technology.com . Please include your drawings, target quantity, application, required certification or test standard, expected delivery date and destination country. Our team will review the project and reply with technical recommendations, pricing, MOQ and lead time.

  11. What is the actuation lifespan and IP rating of your membrane switches?

    • Actuation lifespan: Tactile keys using metal domes or embossed designs exceed 1,000,000 actuations. Non-tactile flat-design keys can reach up to 5,000,000 actuations.
    • Ingress Protection (IP rating): Combined with a full perimeter sealing gasket, our assemblies can achieve IP65–IP67 dustproof and waterproof standards, making them suitable for harsh outdoor, medical and industrial environments.
